RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14 star Kornbread ‘The Snack’ Jeté revealed she will not be returning as expected for season 15.

Kornbread’s time on the Olympics of drag was cut tragically short after suffering an ankle injury, which prevented her from staying on and continuing to compete.

“My run on season 14 was nothing short of AMAZING. Unfortunately I will not be returning to season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race,” she tweeted. “Great things ahead! I love and appreciate you all for the support. Let’s make magic!”

Kornbread also explained that she won’t be appearing on a future series of All Stars as an alternative, saying it wasn’t “her decision”, and that she “just wants to focus on her transition”.

Kornbread came out as trans in November 2021 after having already taken part in season 14, having begun her medical transition the previous January. Season 14 made Drag Race herstory by having the largest cast of trans contestants ever. Both she and fellow season 14 queen Kerri Colby have spoken out about the need for greater trans representation in drag.

“There’s so much of drag that has been influenced by trans women over the years, especially trans women of colour,” Kerri told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m so glad that we have that opportunity to showcase it, but not just like be a trendsetter but also open that door so we can just keep it going.”

“This is how it’s supposed to be,” she summarised.

While co-star Jasmine Kennedie would come out as trans during an emotionally-charged episode of Untucked, the likes of Willow Pill and Bosco would join Kornbread in going public about their gender identity having already filmed the show. Each and every season 14 queen has paid a special tribute to Kerri Colby for helping them on their journey to come out as trans.

“Kornbread and I both knew we planned to come out as trans within a year of finishing the season, because we didn’t come out during the season,” Bosco explained. “We were on the brink, so we had a bond. I felt so much clarity being around them this summer, being able to talk to them and see how they approached things and moved through life.”

She also said that both Kerri and Kornbread’s presences and “sisterhood” helped to “centre” her.
