Lady Gaga’s dog walker has urged one of his shooters to turn himself in after the police “inadvertently” released him.

James Howard Jackson, 19, was being held by the Los Angeles Police Department on an attempted murder charge for shooting Ryan Fischer and making off with Gaga’s dogs, Gustav and Koji, last year.

But cops released him from custody “due to a clerical error” on Wednesday (6 April), the sheriff’s department said.

Now Fischer has publicly spoken out as the police search for his shooter, who still remains on the loose at the time of writing.

“While I’m deeply concerned at the events that left to his release, I’m confident law enforcement will rectify the error,” Fischer said in a statement to abc7 on Friday (8 April).

“I ask for Mr Jackson to turn himself over to the authorities, so resolution to the crime committed against me runs its course, whatever the courts determine that outcome to be.”

According to the LA County District Attorney’s Office, Jackson was cleared Monday to stand trial and arraigned the following day under a grand jury indictment.

This meant that a new case number was to be assigned to Jackson. But during the process, officers mistakenly released him.

“On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, our office indicted Mr James Howard Jackson for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm,” the office wrote in a Twitter statement Friday.

“Mr Jackson was mistakenly released from custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.”

“Our office is working with the Sheriff’s Department to ensure Mr Jackson is returned to custody.”

In a statement to the press, the LA Country Sheriff’s Department said Friday that officials are investigating the “inadvertent release” of Jackson from custody “due to a clerical error”.

“Mr Jackson was in custody for attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Lady Gaga‘s dog walker and the theft of two of the singer’s French Bulldogs which occurred on February 25, 2021,” the department said.

“Defendant Jackson attended court proceedings at the Clara Shortridge Criminal Justice Center on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, and was released from custody on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, due to a clerical error.

“The investigation is continuing and the LASD Major Crimes Bureau is actively working to get Mr Jackson back in custody.”

Jackson is among five people charged in connection to the Hollywood dognapping that ended with Fischer writhing on the floor covered in blood. His injuries – and the attack – continue to rattle him.

After the Los Angeles Police Department used cellular data and surveillance footage to track down the Nissan Sentra’s license plate, Jackson as well as Jaylin White, 19, and Lafayette Whaley, 27, were all charged.

Harold White, 40, and Jennifer McBride, 50, were found to be accessories to the shooting.

“The dog screamed at me, and I reached for him and then the guy, the man with the gun, shot me as I was reaching,” Fischer said according to a 26 October 2021 unsealed transcript obtained by Rolling Stone.

“I immediately tried to call for help but realised I was bleeding out of my lung and that I was losing more and more air quickly.”
